Getting Around While You Are Here

Traveling to and from the Hobart CBD can be done by taxi (the airport is well served with taxi usually readily available), rental car (served by major car rental companies even though not mentioned on the airport web site) or by Airporter shuttle bus that serves many inner city hotels (click here for more information), including Wrest Point where the conference is held.

Both Wrest Point in Hobart where the conference is hosted and the nearby doctoral consortium site can be easily reached by public transport as both sit next to a busy arterial road which is Sandy Bay Road. A taxi ride from the CBD would take about 10 minutes and a trip on a Metro Tasmania bus ($3.40 one way unless you purchase a 'green card') shouldn't take much longer (click here for more information). Walking 3.5km via historic Battery Point which has been a preference of past international visitors takes about 45 minutes (click here for more information). It is not obvious from the Metro Tasmania site but there is a Metro Tas  app available for both iOS and Android. There is also the Bus Pal app built by Hobart based company Secret Lab founded by University of Tasmania graduates. Bus Pal is only available for iOS however it comes with Apple Watch support!

Directions from Sandy Bay to Hobart CDB

By Car:

  • Head north-west on Sandy Bay Rd/B68 towards Drysdale Ave, travel for approximately 2.5 km
  • Continue onto Harrington St for 100 meters
  • Use the right 2 lanes to turn right onto Macquarie St/A6. Continue for 550 meters
  • Turn left onto Argyle St and continue on for 300 meters
  • Turn left onto Liverpool St.

 

Walking:

  • Walk north-west on Sandy Bay Rd/B68 towards Drysdale Ave for 2.3 km
  • Slight right towards Davey St/A6 for 260 metres
  • Turn right onto Davey St/A6 and continue for 110 meters
  • Turn left onto Murray St and continue for 280 meters
  • Turn right, walk for 34 meters

By Bus:

Buses leave every 15 minutes from Wrest Point during the week. Route numbers are 266, 402, 426, 429.

Directions from Sandy Bay to Salamanca

By Car:

  • Head north-west on Sandy Bay Rd/B68 towards Drysdale Ave and drive for 2.2 km
  • Turn right onto Gladstone St and continue for 210 meters
  • At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Salamanca Pl

Walking:

  • Walk north-west on Sandy Bay Rd/B68 towards Drysdale Ave for 500 metres
  • Turn right onto Marieville Esplanade and continue for 750 meters
  • Turn right onto Quayle St and continue for 8 metres
  • Turn left onto Bath St for approximately 98 meters
  • Turn right onto Colville St and go through 1 roundabout, for approximately 550 meters
  • Turn left onto Hampden Rd and continue for 53 meters
  • Turn right onto Runnymede St and walk 39 metres
  • Turn right to stay on Runnymede St and continues for 53 metres
  • Turn right to stay on Runnymede St and continue for 230 meters

By Bus:

Buses leave every 15 minutes from Wrest Point during the week. Route number is 402

 

Directions from Salamanca to Hobart CDB

By Car:

  • Head west on Salamanca Pl towards Kennedy Ln for 130 meters
  • Sharp right onto Gladstone St for 120 meters
  • Continue onto Morrison St for 300 meters
  • Morrison St turns left and becomes Argyle St, continue for 450 meters
  • Turn left onto Liverpool St

Walking:

  • Walk west on Salamanca Pl towards Kennedy Ln for 75 meters
  • Turn right onto Morrison St and continue for 150 meters
  • Slight left to stay on Morrison St for 33 meters
  • Slight left onto Murray St and continue for 450 meters
  • Turn right and walk for 120 m
